Septin 8 interacts with septin 4 and septin 5; these proteins are concomitantly expressed in platelets (6). Sept8 is localized surrounding the alpha-granules and is implicated in platelet granular secretion (7). Sept8 is also required for distribution of sept5 near the vesicles in the cytoplasm of cells. In the absence of sept8, sept5 was found to be diffused throughout the cytoplasm whereas in the presence of sept8, these two proteins were colocalized to the vesicular location in the cytoplasm (8). Sept8 has a long N-terminal extension which is rich in proline residues and a C-terminal coiled-coil domain (9). Septin 8 is located on mouse chromosome 11B1.3. It is expressed in brain, heart, platelets and other tissues with high expression in aorta. Septin 8 is approximately a 51.6kDa protein (430 amino acids).
The Sept8 antibodies were generated using peptide corresponding to mouse Sept8 protein. Sept8 antibodies are affinity purified over immobilized antigen based affinity chromatography, and the purified immunoglobulins are stabilized in antibody stabilization buffer. FabGennix Int.
