Synaptophysin is a 38 kDa synaptic vesicle associated protein. The pathology of synaptic components is investigated by measuring the expression of synaptophysin that is mainly concentrated in synaptic terminals. The expression of synaptophysin is a measure of dynamic plastic changes in nerve tissue. A decrease in synaptophysin and other synaptic vesicle associated proteins (Synaptotagmin, synaptosomal associated protein 25 kDa, SNAP-25, CLC ad GAP-43) generally means degeneration in the nerve fibers and an increased expression results in enhanced neuroplasticity and neuronal hypertrophy (1). In conditions involving generative changes in the nerve tissue, the expression of psynaptophysin is generally reduced, for example, in Schizophrenia an Alzhiemers disease. A decreased expression of synaptophysin in hippocampus of Schizoprenic patients has also been reported (1). 
The Synaptophysin antibodies were generated against synthetic peptides from N- and C-terminal portion that is unique to synaptophysin protein only. The N-terminal cyclic peptide (amino acid 50-62) antibodies are ideally suited for use in Western blotting, IHC and Confocal microscopy; C-terminal peptide (amino acid 293-313) antibodies are useful in immunoprecipitation, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy with slightly lower affinity for Synaptophysin in WB. The polyclonal antibody labels a 38 kDa synapotophysin protein in Western blot positive control for Synaptophysin, rat brain and pancreatic tissue extracts. The synaptophysin antibody is also available in affinity-purified form for confocal, Western blotting and immunocytochemical analyses. FabGennix Inc. will also conjugate antibodies to enzymes (HRP, Alkaline phosphoatase) and fluorescent probes upon request at extra charge.   FabGennix Inc. provides antibodies to a variety of target proteins such as PDEs, Adenylate cyclases, particulate guanylate cyclases, Calcium binding proteins, proteins of the signal transduction pathways, GPCRs etc. FabGennix Inc., employs cyclic peptide methodology for making antibodies that results in higher titer and specificity (2).
